One of Hollywood's Most Beautiful Stars Is Appointed An Honorary Ambassador for Korean Tourism

Lee Charm, the CEO of the Korea Tourism Organization, has invited Hollywood actress Moon Bloodgood to be an Honorary Ambassador for Korean tourism. The appointment ceremony and press conference, took place at the KTO's auditorium (B1) at 10:30 on the 7th of September.

With this appointment, Moon Bloodgood becomes the first Hollywood movie star to represent Korean tourism.

The Korean-American Hollywood actress started her career by appearing in the 2004 movie "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton". Since then, she has gained global stardom by starring in a number of films and TV dramas including the recent blockbuster "Terminator Salvation", which was released in May. Bloodgood has also been ranked as one of "The 40 Most Beautiful Hollywood Women" by Premier, the U.S. movie magazine.

Reportedly, the Hollywood starlet had been offered the chance to play a leading role in Sony's $1million internet drama, but turned down the role in order to take part in the KTO's project.

"Ms. Moon Bloodgood will be taking an active role in upcoming promotional events and various marketing campaigns that will be held in the U.S. region." said Shin Pyung-Sup, the head of the Americas and Europe Team of the KTO. "Recently the US market has been suffering due to the global economic slowdown and the spread of the H1N1 virus. We expect that Ms Bloodgood's influence in promoting Korea as an attractive destination will boost the US market."

Amanda’s Army Walks for its Fourth Time to Cure Her Diabetes

Amanda’s Army Walks for its Fourth Time to Cure Her Diabetes

Join Amanda’s Army (JDRF) Walk to Find a Cure

July 28, 2009 New Windsor, New York: Seven year old Amanda on behalf of the entire Amanda’s Army is calling on her Hudson Valley Community to walk with her to cure not only her diabetes but that of the other millions of children that she shares this fight with. We will be walking at ChadwickLakePark, Newburgh, NY on September 27, 2009.

“For its fourth time Amanda’s Army is walking to raise the desperately needed funding to find a cure. This year is going to be tough to reach our fundraising goal,” said Amanda’s parents. “Times are difficult and we totally understand that everyone is struggling but unfortunately, diabetes does not understand lay-offs, recession and cutbacks. Diabetes is still part of Amanda’s life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It does not take breaks for financial crisis.”

If you have never met Amanda, she turned 7 in January, is a beautiful little girl who loves to play with her friends, participate in gymnastics and draw lovely pictures but she is also a child who experiences low blood sugars and high blood sugars often. The lows make her nauseous, shaky and tired. The highs make her irritable, thirsty and lethargic. This is her life on a daily basis. Constantly doing finger sticks (at least 10 times a day), counting carbs, regulating her insulin pump, and all of the other stuff that comes with living with diabetes.

Where does the money Amanda’s Army raise all go? It is going to research. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) has made tremendous strides in the research areas of:

1) Autoimmunity: Stopping or reversing the immune system response that causes diabetes the attack on insulin-secreting cells in the pancreas. $48.5 million during FY 2008

2) Complications: Understanding how diabetes causes complications, and developing drugs, treatments, and therapies to stop that process, or reverse the impact of the different types of individual complications. $28.9 million during FY 2008

3) Replacement: Replacing cells killed off by diabetes with functioning ones from a donor -- similar to a heart or kidney transplant -- including increasing the supply of cells that can be transplanted. $42.8 million during FY 2008

4) Regeneration: Regenerating insulin-producing cells in people who have diabetes (as opposed to transplanting cells from organ donors or other sources). $21 million during FY 2008.

5) Metabolic Control: Demonstrating that advanced monitoring tools might significantly improve the health of people with diabetes, and developing technologies that link insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors. $15.2 million during FY 2008

Remember 85% of every dollar that JDRF gets goes to research to find a cure for diabetes.

So now, of course, we are asking for your help again and inviting you to walk with us this year on Sunday, September 27 at
1pm (registration at noon) at ChadwickLakePark in Newburgh. The park is so much fun. We had a really good time there last year even though it rained.

Three ways you can help make a difference in Amanda’s life:

1)      You can join Amanda's Army online by clicking on the link http://walk.jdrf.org/walker.cfm?id=87342625 and walk with us on Sept. 27.   If you walk with us, please let us know so that we can get an Amanda’s Army shirt for you. If you join Amanda's Army you can set up your own fundraising page and then send emails to all your friends and family to ask them for donations. Just click "yes" to Walk Central when joining the team.

2)      You can mail a tax-deductible donation made payable to JDRF and mail to: Amanda’s Army, C/o K2 Global Communications LLC, PO Box-418, Central Valley, NY10917.

3)      You can make a tax-deductible donation online at the link http://walk.jdrf.org/walker.cfm?id=87342625.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) International is the leader in setting the agenda for type 1 diabetes research worldwide, and is the world's largest charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children and adults suddenly, but lasts a lifetime. It requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications that may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, amputation, and pregnancy complications.

About Diabetes:

Diabetes (medically known as diabetes mellitus) is the name given to disorders in which the body has trouble regulating its blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels. There are two major types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes, also called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a disorder of the body's immune system -- that is, its system for protecting itself from viruses, bacteria or any "foreign" substances. A third form of diabetes, called monogenic diabetes, is sometimes mistaken for type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body's immune system attacks and destroys certain cells in the pancreas, an organ about the size of a hand that is located behind the lower part of the stomach. These cells -- called beta cells -- are contained, along with other types of cells, within small islands of endocrine cells called the pancreatic islets. Beta cells normally produce insulin, a hormone that helps the body move the glucose contained in food into cells throughout the body, which use it for energy. However, when the beta cells are destroyed, no insulin can be produced, and the glucose stays in the blood instead, where it can cause serious damage to all the organ systems of the body.

For this reason, people with type 1 diabetes must take insulin in order to stay alive. This means undergoing multiple injections daily, or having insulin delivered through an insulin pump, and testing their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood six or more

times a day. People with diabetes must also carefully balance their food intake and their exercise to regulate their blood sugar levels, in an attempt to avoid hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemic (high blood sugar) reactions, which can be life threatening.

The warning signs of type 1 diabetes include extreme thirst; frequent urination; drowsiness or lethargy; sugar in urine; sudden vision changes; increased appetite; sudden weight loss; fruity, sweet, or wine-like odor on breath; heavy, labored breathing; stupor; and unconsciousness.

Type 1 diabetes is generally diagnosed in children, teenagers, or young adults. Scientists do not yet know exactly what causes type 1 diabetes, but they believe that autoimmune, genetic, and environmental factors are involved.

Amanda’s Army (JDRF) Joined by Pony Express M.C. and Saturday Night Cruisers Car Club in The Fight for a Cure

Poker run, bike/car show benefits Juvenile Diabetes Fight

New Windsor, New York, June 31, 2009 – Amanda’s Army joined Pony Express M.C., Hudson Valley Chapter 3, and the Saturday Night Cruisers Car Club on a rare sunny and warm day, Sunday, June 28, 2009, raising $4000.00 in the fight against Juvenile Diabetes.

Moroney’s Cycle was the venue for the poker run start that ended at Orange County New York’s Thomas Bull Memorial Park with a bike/car show, music and barbeque.

"We continue to be blessed by people that don't even know us and yet are so willing to help Amanda's Army raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. After spending time with The Pony Express at the Poker Run, now when we see a motorcycle pass by we find ourselves smiling," said the Molloy family.

CROSSROADS CUSTOM RIDES at the invitation of the Saturday Night Cruisers Car Club, participated with The Marine Corps Tribute Bike and The Simon Kirke Signature Series, Gold Star Parents Edition, United States—United Kingdom Veterans Tribute Bike with Matching Southern Fried Guitar on display.

“The Marine Corps Tribute Bike and the US-UK Goldstar Parents Tribute Bike are never placed in competition,” said Lawrence Tremblay, Sr. However with prior permissions granted The Simon Kirke Signature Series, Gold Star Parents Edition, United States—United Kingdom Veterans Tribute Bike with Matching Southern Fried Guitar was entered by Amanda Molloy’s St. Thomas of Canterbury classmates and friends in support of Amanda’s Army; winning the Peoples Choice trophy.

Amanda and her friends will be presenting the trophy to their school for display. CROSSROADS CUSTOM RIDES had previously named Amanda’s Army (JDRF) as one of the charitable organizations they support.

A special opportunity and treat for those joining the fight to find a cure was the Official AMANDA’S ARMY ROCKIN 4 THE CURE GUITAR that was donated by Amanda’s St. Thomas of Canterbury classmates and friends. The Sky Blue Slammer Guitar was made possible by the great support of Van Gelder Music Center in Monroe, New York. “The guitar auction was not previously announced to ensure that true supporters of Amanda’s Army  received the guitar, not memorabilia collectors,” said Amanda’s Army supporter Greg Kelly of K2 GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS LLC.

Taz, of Saturday Night Cruisers Car Club took the guitar home from auction with a high bid of $260.00. The guitar bears the autographs of Amanda Molloy’s St. Thomas of Canterbury classmates and friends, Legendary Musician, Simon Kirke (FREE & BAD CO), Lawrence Tremblay, Sr., (CROSSROADS CUSTOM RIDES), Rock Icon, Caroline Purr, Hudson Valley Groove Man, Zeb Kandros (DEEP CHEMISTRY), Legendary Musician, Eric Bloom (BLUE OYSTER CULT) and Corinne Trang (AWARD WINNING CULINARY ARTS AUTHOR/CHEF).
