CLIENT/ROSTER: THE MARINE CORPS TRIBUTE BIKE - GOLD STAR PARENT LAWRENCE TREMBLAY, SR

THE MARINE CORPS TRIBUTE BIKE

Motorcycle Bio

By Gold Star Parent Larry Tremblay, Sr.

I shall never forget that day in April of 2005 when two Marines came to my home to inform me of the death of my beloved son Joey in Iraq. During the two to three months that followed Joey's death an idea formed in my mind to build a tribute to Joey that would make him proud and that everyone who saw it would always remember Joey and all the other young men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

It is in this vein that the Marine (Tribute-Memorial) Bike was started. The Marine Bike was built for one, dedicated to a few and in honor of all who have fallen defending our great nation. My son Joey and I used to spend time together watching Jesse James on the Discovery Channel and the Biker Build Offs. We both enjoyed and admired the skill and talent it took to build a motorcycle that I thought would be a great monument to the son I so loved and missed.

There are many people and companies that have helped this idea come to life. This bike could not have been built without the help, talent, and support from the following: Power Tech of New Windsor NY, RPM Choppers Newburgh NY, Hannoush Jewelers Newburgh Mall Newburgh NY, Dino Petrocelli photographer Lathan NY, Moto Insanity Marlboro NY, JB Graffix Newburgh NY, Richard's Military Post Exchange Port Jervis NY, Custom Machinery Newburgh NY, and Stevenson Lumber Co. New Windsor NY.

To all those listed above, and to all I may have left out by mistake, my heartfelt thanks. I could not have accomplished this memorial to my son and the many others without you. To my son Joey I know you are looking down from above and smiling. I hope you are proud of the bike, as we are so proud of you. I will hold you in my heart forever.

Until we meet again…I love you,

Dad

LEGENDARY MUSICIAN SIMON KIRKE (FREE & BAD COMPANY)

Simon Kirke holds a seat on the Advisory Board and is on the roster of VETUNES® a division of the American Veterans Aid Fund that works with the music industry to raise funds for veterans and their families and create awareness campaigns.

Simon Kirke was born in London on July 28, 1950 and spent his early years living in the borderlands of Wales. Leaving school at the age of 17, he returned to London and set about finding a drumming job in the booming blues scene. After a fruitless 18 months he was resigned to returning to the country when he met Paul Kossoff who was playing in a band called the Black Cat Bones. Simon was offered the drumming position in the band for which he played for 6 months. Simon and Paul Kossof left the band and together with Paul Rodgers and Andy Fraser formed Free. In the four years Free were together they had an enormous influence on many bands on both sides of the Atlantic. Their biggest hit "Alright Now" has become a rock classic and recently polled over 2 million plays on the radio. After the disbanding of Free in 1973, Simon and Paul Rodgers once again teamed up to form Bad Company. They were joined by guitarist Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hoople) and bassist Boz Burrell (King Crimson). Bad Company became one of the biggest and best live acts which have sold approximately 60 million singles and albums to date. As well as touring with Ringo Starr’s All Star Band on three separate occasions, Simon is an accomplished songwriter releasing "Seven Rays of Hope" in 2005. He has also worked on projects with Wilson Pickett, Bo Didley, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Kieth Richards, Ronnie Woods, and Eric Clapton.

A governor on the board of NARAS (the Grammy Committee) Simon now lives in Manhattan with his wife Lorraine and four children.

Their two self produced demo's Evolving the Groove (Feb 2004) and Visible Frequencies (May 2004) both showcase the band's creativity and versatility. Although they have only been playing together as a band since late fall of 2003,

Deep Chemistry has performed in some renowned venues, such as The Continental (NYC), The Chance Theater (Poughkeepsie, NY), The Lion's Den (NYC), Kenny's Castaway's (NYC), Higher Ground (VT) as well as numerous other venues in the NYC and North East.

Other notable performances include headlining and co-organizing the "Feed 'Em With Music Festival", a fund raiser for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. Deep Chemistry has also opened for & shared the stage with such acts as: Jimmie's Chicken Shack; Lynch; U-Melt; Tea Leaf Green & Guy Malone to name a few.

Regardless of the size of the audience, Deep Chemistry never fails to ignite the stage with their intense musical energy. Within Deep Chemistry's first year of playing out, the band had already procured a local fan base that has continued to expand with each gig. No one leaves a Deep Chemistry show without feeling the reaction.

With a shared goal of creating music and lyrics that are uplifting, powerful, and honest, Deep Chemistry has an air of maturity and sophistication not usually found in most young rock bands. Deep Chemistry is ready and willing to share their music with an even wider audience through any means that doesn't compromise their goals and values.

Deep Chemistry is a musical oasis in the desert of bland, commercial pop music that is inundating today's airwaves.

AMERICAN VETERANS AID FUND: OUR HEROES NEED YOUR HELP TODAY!

American Veterans Aid Fund (AVAF)  http://americanveteransaidfund.com/index.shtml  , a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, was established as part of the American Veterans Aid family of companies to assist veterans and their families in obtaining and maintaining the respect, dignity, and honor earned through their service and sacrifice. AVAF has a relationship with veterans, their families, and veteran organizations based upon mutual regard and shared visions for a better tomorrow as well as common interests and values.

What defines our character as veterans is the bond formed through our military service and that bond follows us into civilian life. It is because of this special connection that we are sensitive to the reality that other veterans may not be as fortunate as ourselves and therefore may need assistance beyond what government funds and programs are available or can provide.

At AVAF, we recognize that this is an unprecedented time in the history of veterans in the United States. A rapidly aging veteran population from World War II and Korea presents unique challenges today, especially in terms of medical and housing (assisted living) needs.

Combat does not end when one leaves the battlefield. From Vietnam to the Iraq, Agent Orange to Depleted Uranium Munitions, our veterans and their families are facing some of the greatest battles of their lives and support is needed now more than ever before.

Muslim hate preacher ridicules troops abused in anti-war protests - and mocks their dead comrade

A Muslim preacher of hate today ridiculed British soldiers who were abused during a homecoming parade - branding them cowards who have an 'uncanny knack for death by friendly fire'.

Firebrand preacher Anjem Choudary praised the Muslims who had protested at yesterday's parade for the 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment in Luton.

And in an inflammatory message posted on an Islamic extremist website, Choudary viciously mocked their comrade who was killed by friendly fire in Iraq.

His words came as police charged a man who allegedly shouted abuse at the Muslim anti-war protesters.

A second march which took place today in Watford passed off peacefully, with hundreds of residents turning out to cheer on the soldiers.

Choudary, who has links with banned Muslim cleric Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed, likened the soldiers to Nazis and branded yesterday's homecoming a 'vile parade' of 'brutal murderers'.

Choudary said: 'On 10th March 2009 200 pathetic and cowardly British soldiers from the second battalion, of the Royal Anglian Regiment, pompously marched through Luton to demonstrate their skill at murdering and torturing thousands of innocent Muslim men, women and children (in Iraq) over a 24-month period.'

Choudary leads the controversial Islam For The UK organisation which wants Britain to be an Islamic state, ruled by Sharia law.

His group was formed after Bakri's fundamentalist organisation Al-Muhajiroun was banned by the Government.

He said: 'Non-Muslims in Britain must appreciate that the actions of the British soldiers must be condemned unreservedly; they are not heroes but closer to cowards who cannot fight, as their uncanny knack for death by 'friendly fire' illustrates.'

His cruel comments were clearly designed to mock the memory of Private Darren George, 23, from Pirbright, Surrey, who was accidentally shot by a colleague in Kabul on April 9, 2002.

Anjem Choudary has praised the Muslim anti-war protesters while hate preacher Omar Bakri has said he feels pride at their demonstration

Today it was revealed that yesterday's shocking scenes were likely to have been organised by an extremist group directly linked to Bakri Mohammed.

Within hours of the march ending the London School of Sharia had posted a message in support on its website.

The group is led by Bakri, the 'Tottenham Ayotollah', who now preaches to his followers from Lebanon via videos posted on websites after he was barred from Britain.

Bakri, 51, today said he felt 'proud' of the Luton protesters but denied any involvement in organising the demonstration.

The  preacher, speaking from the Lebanon, said: 'My brothers from Luton were protesting against people they see as killers of Muslims in Iraq - including women and children'

But one Muslim community leader today condemned the extremists.

Akbar Dad Khan, of Building Bridges in the town, said: 'They are about 10 to 15 hotheads. The best thing to do is just to ignore them. They do not represent the views of the community. They are a small hotch-potch of hot heads.

'They love the attention and the media should not give them the time of day. The vast majority of the Muslim population in Luton - like elsewhere - want to live peacefully and get on with their lives.'

Returning heroes: Members of the 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment parading through Luton yesterday after their tour of duty in Iraq

'Many people from all backgrounds opposed the Iraq war but there are proper ways to conduct yourself,' he added.

One protester at yesterday's rally, Sayful Islam, the leader of the Luton branch of an organisation that has the same beliefs as al-Muhajiroun, was unrepentant today.

He said: 'The anger has been rising. The parade was the final insult. They have killed, maimed and raped thousands of innocent people. They can't come here and parade where there is such a Muslim community.'

Last month members of the same group were seen at an anti-Israel demonstration in the Bedfordshire town.

In his internet posting, Anjem Choudary said that the British soldiers were 'terrorists'.

He said: 'They cannot be excused for simply 'carrying out their duty', which incidentally (and vividly) was also used by Nazi soldiers in Germany to justify their notorious and bloody campaigns in the early 20th century.'

Police closely monitor the anti-Army group as the 200-strong regiment passes through Luton town centre

Yesterday the 200 troops were faced with the hate-filled jeers of anti-war protesters waving placards saying: ‘Anglian soldiers: Butchers of Basra,’ and ‘Anglian soldiers: cowards, killers, extremists.’

Police were already out in force to protect the anti-war group and arrested two men among the soldiers’ supporters.

Last night the mother of David Hicks, a captain with the Royal Anglian Regiment who was killed in Afghanistan in August 2007, called the protests ‘extremely distressing’.

‘I felt very saddened and extremely upset,’ said Mrs Hicks, of Wokingham, Berkshire. ‘I also feel a little angry. I think every mother or father who has lost somebody in Afghanistan or Iraq would feel very difficult about this.

‘It’s very easy to tarnish all the Muslim community with the same brush, but I do wonder, if the roles were reversed, if such a protest would be allowed in a Muslim country.’

Gordon Brown condemned the protests and ministers and senior politicians branded the demonstration ‘insulting’ and ‘sordid.’

Shadow Secretary of State for Defence Dr Liam Fox said: ‘This is offensive, appalling and disgraceful.

luton

Elsewhere along the route hundreds of townsfolk turned out to clap and cheer on the soldiers

luton

Tempers flared as pro-Army supporters took offence at the small protest and police were forced to separate the groups

'It is only because of the sacrifices made by our armed forces that these people live in a free society where they are able to make their sordid protests.’

Luton South Labour MP Margaret Moran called for an inquiry into the way police handled the incident.

She said: ‘Calling people baby-killers and the rest seems to amount to provocation of the worst kind when these lads and lasses have risked their lives for the freedom these people enjoy. It seems to me this amounted to huge provocation and was potentially racially divisive.’

But the Muslim protesters were unrepentant. Teacher Sayful Islam, self-styled leader of the Luton branch of al-Muhajiroun – the now-banned radical organisation led by Sheikh Omar Bakri – said: ‘The anger has been rising. The parade was the final insult.

‘They have killed, maimed and raped thousands of innocent people. They can’t come here and parade where there is such a Muslim community. What do they have to be proud of?’

Counter attack: A placard spells out backing for our troops

The battalion is based in Germany, but Bedfordshire is one of the areas where it recruits, along with neighbouring Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire.

Trouble flared as the soldiers marched to a meeting with the Duke of Gloucester, the regiment’s colonel-in-chief, and local dignitaries.

He said:' The anger has been rising up. The parade was the final insult.

'They have killed, maimed and raped thousands of innocent people. They can't come here and parade where there is such a Muslim community. What do they have to be proud of?'

Leaflets urging Muslims to demonstrate against the soldiers' homecoming had been distributed around Luton earlier in the week.

Under the headline 'Criminals' it railed against the troops' 'audacity' at marching though the town centre and accused them of having 'blood on their hands.'

Protesters

Sign of dissent: An anti-government message

It read 'Muhammad said :"He among you who sees a munkar (evil) should change it with his hand. If he can not do that , then with his tongue(by speaking out against it)".'

It finished with the words:' We urge the Muslims of Luton not to stay silent against these murderers of Muslim men, women and children and to do what we as Muslims have been obliged to do and speak against an open evil.'

Police had penned the protesters into a small area and two lines of officers separated them from a large number of local people, waving Union and St George’s flags. At one point a man climbed onto a roof and threw a packet of bacon at the Muslim group.

Bedfordshire police said the Muslim protesters were later ‘escorted from the area to a safe place to disperse’.

The force said last night: ‘Everything that went on will be examined and if any offences have been committed then we will arrest them.’

An Army spokesman said the battalion, which is due to take part in a similar march in Watford today, was ‘deeply touched’ by the strong support shown by the people of Luton.

He said: ‘There is no better boost to a soldier than to see hundreds of people turn out to watch them on parade.'

The regiment's tragic roll call

The Royal Anglian Regiment has lost ten soldiers during the Afghan conflict and two during the Iraq conflict.

Those killed in Afghanistan are:

  • Private Aaron McClure, 19, from Ipswich, Suffolk; Private Robert Foster, 19, from Harlow, Essex; and Private John Thrumble, 21, from Chelmsford, Essex. All three were killed in a ‘ friendlyfire’ attack by a U.S. F15 fighter plane in Helmand on August 23, 2007.
Fallen soldiers

  • Lance Corporal Alex Hawkins, 22, from East Dereham, Norfolk, was killed on July 25, 2007, by an explosion as his patrol returned to base in Helmand.
  • Corporal Darren Bonner, 31, from Gorleston, Norfolk, was killed on May 28, 2007, by an explosion when his convoy was attacked in Helmand.

New York Loses Biggest Rock Radio Station (Again): K-Rock Shifts to Top 40

K2 GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS, LLC:  The New York City Radio Market is indeed in a sad state of affair  when it comes to Classic Rock.  On the other hand ethnic stations such as Latin/Hispanic are flourishing.  Could it be that the demographics of NYC have changed so much that Classic Rock cannot keep a station a float or is it the same fate of most mainstream radio?

New York rock radio station 92.3 WXRK “K-Rock” — the former home of Howard Stern in the Big Apple — will reportedly go off the air as of 5 p.m. EST Wednesday, March 11th, and be replaced by WNOW, a Top 40 format (morning jocks Opie & Anthony were fired and won’t be along for the ride). The change marks the second time New York City has lost K-Rock, its biggest rock radio station: after Stern departed for satellite radio, it relaunched in December 2005 as Free-FM, which featured a mostly talk format with rock on the weekends, and briefly, David Lee Roth as a morning-show host. In May 2007, K-Rock returned as a rock station, but shifted its focus from new music to Nineties alternative and classic rock. This week’s change leaves the tri-state area with 101.9 WRXP — “The New York Rock Experience” — as the region’s dominant rock station. WRXP launched its current format in February 2008, and plays classic alternative as well as newer artists.

Connecticut Catholics Plan Rally in Lieu of Bill's Hearing

Connecticut Catholics Plan Rally in Lieu of Bill's Hearing

by Elizabeth Ela

The hearing may be cancelled, but Connecticut’s Catholics aren’t backing down quietly.

The day before its public hearing, the Connecticut General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee tabled a bill that threatened to take away priests’ and bishops’ authority to govern their flocks and instead exclude clergy from all business decisions.

Rep. Michael Lawlor and Sen. Andrew McDonald, co-chairs of the Judiciary Committee, issued a statement Tuesday afternoon, saying the bill’s proponents asked them to cancel the hearing and table discussion for the rest of the legislative session.

Hundreds if not more Catholics and others concerned for religious freedom in the Constitution State were expected to show up and wait to testify to the committee tomorrow. In the absence of a hearing, they’ll rally instead at the Hartford state capitol, intent on making known their opposition to a bill that specifically targets the governing structure of the Roman Catholic Church.

“The public hearing for Proposed Bill 1098 may have been postponed, but the bill is still alive,” the Diocese of Bridgeport’s website warned.

Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport has been outspoken against the legislation over the past five days, and the diocese is still busing members to Hartford tomorrow morning to participate in the rally.

Headline Bistro will be reporting from the rally via Twitter.

Lawlor and McDonald said they decided to pull the bill because of potential constitutional issues over Connecticut’s current regulations on religious corporations.

“It would serve no useful purpose to have a conversation about changing the laws that govern existing Roman Catholic corporations until we know if any of these existing laws are constitutional,” the statement said.

Those existing laws are under Section 33-264 of the state’s general statutes, which define the Roman Catholic Church, among other religious groups, as a religious corporation able to conduct business transactions within the state.

Bill 1098, however, would revise regulations only applying to the Catholic Church, with provisions that would take authority away from bishops and pastors and place business matters in the hands of boards of directors – from which clergy would be denied a vote.

In the meanwhile, Lawlor and McDonald said that they will pursue talks with representatives from all religious denominations in the state and other legal scholars, outside of the legislative session.
